Manchester United are edging closer to the signing of Atalanta striker Ramsus Hojlund following weeks and months of talks between club and player. Hojlund is now part of the same agency as Erik Ten Hag ahead of a move that all parties are looking to complete this summer.
Many people hadn’t heard of the striker before links between United emerged. Hojlund is a young striker who has become a first team player at Atalanta in the Serie A. The young Danish international has also made a handful of appearances for his National team following his form over in Italy.
The deal to sign Hojlund will cost United a decent sum of cash for a player who is not proven at an elite level but there is more to the signing of the player than many will see. At only 20 years old, Hojlund has the potential to become a long term superstar at Old Trafford for years to come.
Ramsus Hojlund – A future Manchester United star?
Standing at 6 foot 2, Hojlund is not the player that will just sit inside the opposition box to collect easy balls from crosses. A workhorse striker, for a player at such a height many fans will be highly impressed with how agile and quick the 20 year old is.
Nine goals in 20 games for the striker in the Serie A as well as an impressive six goals in four games during the European qualifiers for his country. A striker who is confident in his goal scoring at such a young age is the type of investment that United need to make.
In terms of Hojlund’s style of play, he’s noted to be a player that likes to dribble and is a major threat on the counter attack. Once again considering his height as a factor, this provides a total upgrade on someone like Wout Weghorst that was at Old Trafford last season.
Some of his weaknesses are listed as holding on to the ball and his defensive contribution – almost earmarking him as an ultimate number nine. Overall, Hojlund could be a star and with an investment of around £45million from United, this could go on to be one of the clubs smarter investments.
