Liverpool are ready to sell centre-back Nathaniel Phillips this summer on a permanent deal, according to the Sun.

Newly relegated Leeds United have expressed interest in signing the 26-year-old on loan, however, the Reds would prefer an outright sale as he is deemed surplus to requirement by Jurgen Klopp.

He is down the pecking order at the club with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez all ahead of him. He made only seven appearances for the Merseysiders and provided one assist across all competitions last season.

Phillips, who came through the club’s academy joined Klopp’s first-team squads in 2018. He spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart where he featured in 22 games and recorded one assist in all competitions.

After his successful spell in Germany, he played a key role in Liverpool’s quest to secure Champions League qualification. Injuries to Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez hampered the performance and form of Klopp’s side as they struggled to churn out positive results.

Phillips formed a decent defensive partnership with Rhys Williams as they propelled Liverpool to a third-place finish in the Premier League.

The England defender has made 29 appearances for Liverpool in total and made two goal contributions.
