Vitor Roque recently joined Barcelona for a fee of around €60million, but Manchester United were one of the clubs that tried to hijack the deal before it happened.

United offered a significant fee to try and sign Roque, but the Brazilian only had his sights set on Barcelona. This may dispel the myth that United do not have much money to deal with this summer.

The claims were made by Vitor Roque’s agent, Andre Cury.

United Made Move For Roque:

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Vitor Roque’s agent Andre Cury has claimed Manchester United and Tottenham tried to sign Roque. The Brazilian however always wanted Barcelona.

“I can confirm that English clubs tried to hijack Roque deal.”

“Tottenham and Manchester United sent important bids, way better than Barça; close to €100m”.

Manchester United did have an interest in Roque but news of a bid never broke into the media officially. The club are likely to deny being involved in the deal but Roque’s agent is certain.

Barcelona have been favourites to sign Roque for some time after initially trailing to Chelsea. The player was announced yesterday, and the deal may now feel even sweeter that they’ve apparently beat two English clubs to the signing.

Tottenham’s involvement is a surprise considering they never spend massive on players, but United’s certainly isn’t. A €100million bid doesn’t sound like a club with FFP troubles, and they will be hoping this news doesn’t hinder negotiations going forward.

Roque is a Barcelona player, and he may be the one that got away for Manchester United.
