After a crazy 24 hours at Anfield, it has emerged that Liverpool still appear to be interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone.
On Thursday, speculation grew that both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho could depart for Saudi this summer. Liverpool’s skipper has been offered a lucrative contract by Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq whilst the Brazilian is reported to be subject to a £40million offer from Al-Ittihad.
Whilst the future of two of Jurgen Klopp’s key players remains unclear, Liverpool are working in the background on a contingency plan.
According to Christian Falk, new Reds sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is ‘still keeping an eye’ on France under-21 international Kone.
The 22-year-old had been linked with a move to Anfield shortly after the transfer window opened but interest appeared to cool after the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, with focus switching to Southampton’s Romeo Lavia instead.
The Transfer Room Verdict On Manu Kone Links Re-Emerging
Whilst it looked like the Anfield hierarchy would pursue a move for Lavia, losing two of their most experienced midfielders may mean they need to change strategy.
Kone has many attributes that will attract Liverpool and will be available at a reasonable price meaning this is a move that cannot be ruled out.
