After news broke on Saturday morning that Liverpool midfielder Fabinho was the subject of a £40million offer from Al-Ittihad, speculation has started as to who could replace the Brazilian at Anfield.

The interest in the 29-year-old emerged on Thursday at the same time that Al-Ettifaq appeared to make their move for Jordan Henderson.

Whilst reports suggest that the Reds skipper has agreed personal terms with the Saudi club, there is still no agreement between the two clubs.

Liverpool made a fast start to the summer transfer window and Jurgen Klopp’s rebuild with the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

There have also been strong links to Southampton’s Romeo Lavia although it seems that discussions have not yet started between the two clubs.

As Liverpool departed for Germany on Saturday however, Fabinho was not part of the travelling squad providing an indication that a deal for the midfielder may not be far off.

Four Possible Fabinho Replacements

A number of journalists have reported these four players as possible options to replace the Brazilian should he depart.

  • Sofyan Amrabat
  • Kalvin Phillips

The Transfer Room’s Verdict On Possible Fabinho Replacements

The list of names provided by journalists on Saturday morning does not feel that inspiring with the exception of Lavia.

As to whether the Belgian is ready to step straight into the team to replace Fabinho is subject to question and a more experienced player may be needed in addition to the 19-year-old.

Moises Caicedo may prove too expensive with Brighton rumoured to want £100million for the Ecuadorian. In addition to those already mentioned, other more attainable targets could include Florentino Luis of Benfica and Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach.
