Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has been given permission to undergo a medical with Saudi club Al Ittihad, according to 90min.

The 29-year-old was left out of Jurgen Klopp’s squad for their pre-season training camp in Germany after receiving an official bid of £40m from Al Ittihad on Friday night.

A decision was taken between the player and the club to be left out entirely. Fabinho joined Liverpool from Monaco in 2018 and has emerged as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world during his time at Anfield.

He has racked up 219 appearances, scored 11 times, and recorded 10 assists across all competitions. The Brazil midfielder has helped Klopp’s side clinch the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, Super Cup, Emirates FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.

If the deal goes through, he will join other Premier League stars such as former teammate Roberto Firmino, N’Golo Kanté, and Kalidou Koulibaly in Saudi Arabia.

Al Ittihad beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr to win last season’s Saudi Pro League and would hope to clinch it for the second consecutive time. They have added Karim Benzema and Kante to their squad this summer and more stars are expected to join them.

Meanwhile, skipper Jordan Henderson was added to Liverpool’s travelling party despite attracting interest from Al Ettifaq. The 33-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the club, however, the Saudi Pro League side are yet to meet Liverpool’s asking price.

The Reds have spent £95m on midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, however, they are expected to add at least two more to their squad.

Romeo Lavia, Sofyan Amrabat, Bayern Ryan Gravenberch, and Kalvin Phillips have all been linked with a move to Anfield this summer.
