Liverpool midfielder Dominic Corness has joined Swiss Super League side Yverdon Sport on a season-long loan for the 2023-24 campaign.

The 20-year-old, who signed his first professional contract with the Reds in February 2021 becomes the latest player to leave the club for regular playing time elsewhere to aid his progress.

Corness joined the LFC Academy at the age of five and was a regular member of the U21s team last season where he featured in 35 games and recorded five assists across all competitions.

The versatile midfielder was made captain of the U21s last term and also led the U19s in the UEFA Youth League. He was added to Liverpool’s travelling squad for the winter trip to Dubai where he made an appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“Dominic Corness has completed a loan move to Swiss Super League side Yverdon Sport for the 2023-24 season, subject to international clearance”, a club statement read.

“Corness will now gain his first experience of senior football by heading to Switzerland, with Yverdon having been promoted after topping the second tier last term.”

Klopp will hope the loan move would help him mature in his role as a midfielder and could be given a chance in next year’s pre-season to state a claim for first-team football.
