Liverpool’s first bid for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia has been rejected but they reportedly are keen to close the deal at £40 million.
The opening offer that has started negotiations is worth around £37 million which will not be enough to get the transfer done.
Southampton are hoping for a package deal which is worth £50 Million but it appears that they want more money upfront rather than waiting for potential add-ons.
Personal terms for Lavia will not be an issue with the club having been in contact with his representatives for around a month.
Southampton responded to Liverpool’s first bid with a counter-offer as they want the deal to be done due to the need to sell players ahead of their Championship season.
Liverpool want the deal to be done for £40 million but Southampton do want more.
Conversations are ongoing as both sides want the deal done so it would appear that a compromise will happen.
At just 19-years-old Lavia is seen as a priority by Liverpool but the plan was to bring him with Fabinho in the squad at the same time.
However with Fabinho possibly on his way out it remains to be seen if Liverpool will bring in a more experienced midfielder as well as Lavia.
