Liverpool have made an improved offer to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer, according to renowned journalist Melissa Reddy.
The Reds had their first bid worth £34m plus £4m in add-ons turned down by the newly relegated side who want £50m for the 19-year-old.
It is believed the new bid is closer to the Saints’ asking price for Lavia. The Belgium international is also attracting interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
He remains keen on a switch to Anfield and if a comprise cannot be reached with Southampton, Liverpool will be considering alternative options which include Fluminense’s Andre.
Other midfielders linked with a move to Liverpool include Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure, Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, and Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips.
Lavia moved to the St Mary’s Stadium last summer from Manchester City and has four years left on his contract, therefore, Russell Martin’s outfit are under no pressure to sell.
Pep Guardiola’s outfit are entitled to 20 percent of any fee received for his services, hence Southampton are firm on their asking price.
Personal terms won’t be an issue as the Reds look to complete the deal sooner rather than later with the 2023/24 season starting next week.
Lavia was one of the standout players for Southampton last season – featuring in 34 games and making two goal contritions across all competitions.
Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai and are still in the market to make further midfield reinforcements following the exit of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita in June.
Jordan Henderson and Fabinho who were both part of Klopp’s plan for next season have also left the club to continue their playing career in Saudi Pro League.
