Talks between Liverpool and Southampton over Romeo Lavia are set to continue.

News broke on Monday afternoon that a bid of £45million including add-ons had been rejected by the Saints hierarchy.

That was the third time a proposal from Liverpool for the 19-year-old had been turned down this summer.

According to Sacha Tavolieri however, talks are set to continue after it was made clear by Lavia’s representatives that he wants to sign for Liverpool with the deal described as ‘so close now’.

Liverpool are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements after Jordan Henderson and Fabinho unexpectedly left for Saudi clubs.

James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had also departed at the end of last season with only Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai being brought in to replace them.

The Reds are in action on Monday as they take to the field for their final pre-season friendly against Darmstadt 98 at Preston’s Deepdale.

They will then face Chelsea in their Premier League opener at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
