Chelsea are ready to submit a British transfer record of £115m to complete the signing of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer, according to Sky Sports.
The Blues want to hijack Liverpool’s move for Caicedo after reaching a British record transfer fee of £111m with the Seagulls for the 21-year-old.
The deal could surpass the £107m Chelsea paid for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez in January.
Caicedo has rejected a move to Anfield after he was scheduled to undergo his medical on Friday afternoon. He wants to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side who were outbid by the Reds on Thursday night. The Blues offered £100m for Caicedo.
The Merseysiders had made the move having received positive feedback Caicedo would be open to a transfer to the club, despite Chelsea chasing him all summer.
Caicedo is still in London, hoping for Chelsea to match or outbid Liverpool. It is believed that Chelsea will reach an agreement with Brighton before their league opener against Liverpool on Sunday.
The South American moved to Brighton from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle for £4m in February 2021, however, he did not make his Premier League debut until April 2022.
Liverpool have lost several midfielders including Jordan Henderson and Fabinho who moved to the Saudi Pro League last month, however, they’ve already signed Caicedo’s Brighton team-mate Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
