Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag was “Very pleased” with his side’s 1-0 Premier League win over Wolves on Monday night.
The first game of the season was one that The Red Devils found rather tough and they were outplayed for much of the game at Old Trafford.
However, a second-half header from Raphael Varane meant that United were able to gain a lead and hold onto it until the final whistle.
Ten Hag said to the BBC after the game: “It can be better, we can play better. But we’re very pleased with the win; the opposition were dynamic. We have to match that, we had to fight for our points.
“There is no easy game in the Premier League and definitely not Wolves. They’re a tough team and we did really well, you have to fight in every game.
In the final minutes of the match came a penalty shout for Wolves but VAR decided not to call the referee over to the monitor after goalkeeper Andre Onana clattered into two opposition players:
“He had very good saves, was very calm, very good debut. After the opponent touched the ball he dived in so it was the judgement of the officials and lucky for us no penalty. I think you can debate it but I think no penalty.
The Dutchman was also pleased with the other debutant, Mason Mount: “(A) Good performance – he did what we expected him to do. He had a very good level in the game.”
