Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has provided an update regarding the injuries that are currently plaguing the squad.

Going into the season, it was already known that Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial and more were struggling with injuries.

Martial has returned to fitness but things have gotten worse with players such as Tom Heaton, Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw all receiving fresh problems in the medical department.

It has gotten so bad at left-back that the club could even get someone new in to cover on a short-term basis (Story here).

The coach has provided an update on who may be back when, first talking about the injury crisis as a whole: “That is the situation, it’s normal, top football, you got to the limits, injuries coming up, it’s always disappointing but you have to deal with it and construct a squad.

He was asked about Shaw: “We can’t do that (put a timescale on him coming back), it’s personal these days, they will be for some period absent where Luke will be longer than Mason (Mount). Luke will be longer than Mason I think.”

Malacia has been injured since even before pre-season: “It will also take a few weeks before he will be back. Definitely, we have the solutions in our squad to cope with that. We thought before the season about this scenario, it could happen, you hope to avoid (It). But if it happens, you have to be ready for it.”

And finally on Hojlund: “Not for tomorrow. (He is) near. Today, for the first time, he came into team training so next week we expect him to do a full week of team training, so he is near to the squad.”

The Red Devils return to Old Trafford on Saturday to play Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
