The 30-year-old marked his full debut for the Reds at St. James’ Park, contributing for 58 minutes on the field before being substituted by 20-year-old Harvey Elliott.

The game saw Darwin Nunez’s late double secure three crucial points for the visitors, a remarkable turnaround after Virgil van Dijk received a red card just moments after Anthony Gordon netted the opener for the Magpies in the first half.

Endo told Liverpoolfc.com post-match: “An amazing feeling actually. It was a very difficult game and we had to play with 10 men, so it’s a very tough game for me but I’m so happy to win this game.

“For me, it was very tough but I just tried to do my best. Defensively, after [we went down] to 10 men I just tried to help us not concede. That was my job and, of course, I can be better.

“Second half, it was very tough but I just tried to do my best and we just kept [it at] 1-0 – that was a very important thing, I think.

“I think that’s Liverpool. Even though we play with 10 men, we still have a chance to win that game.

“This was an amazing feeling and we have very strong offensive players.”
