Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has withdrawn from the England squad due to an injury he suffered against Aston Villa on Sunday.
The 24-year-old was substituted after 71 minutes during the Reds’ routine 3-0 win over Villa at Anfield. He will now miss the Three Lions’ upcoming fixtures against Ukraine and Scotland.
Alexander-Arnold will continue to remain at the AXA Training Centre as he completes his rehabilitation under the supervision of the Reds’ medical staff.
He is now a doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League game against Wolves after the international break on Saturday, September 16.
Jurgen Klopp said in his post-match press conference after the Vila clash: “I don’t know exactly. I asked him, he said it’s [his] hamstring.
“’Not too serious’ is his opinion, but we obviously have to wait for the scans and then we will know more.”
Meanwhile, academy graduate Jarell Quansah has also withdrawn from the England U20s set-up. Ibrahima Konate is also another Liverpool player to stay at the club due to his current injury lay-off.
The 24-year-old will miss France’s games against Ireland and Germany.
Liverpool made it three Premier League wins in a row against Villa on Sunday. Dominik Szoboszlai’s first Reds goal opened the scoring for the Merseysiders in the opening three minutes.
That was followed by a Matty Cash own goal, forced by Darwin Nunez’s strike against the post, in the first half and Mohamed Salah made it 3-0 for Klopp’s men from a Nunez knockdown after the interval.
