Manchester United have decided they want to bring a new centre-back into the club, and have shortlisted four ahead of the summer transfer window. The January window is not ruled out, but summer is much more likely.

With the injury issues of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, United feel reinforcements are needed. The club have been monitoring the centre-back market for some time, and are now ready to delve into it.

The four defenders shortlisted vary in profile, but all four are top class in their own right.

Summer Defenders List:

Jean-Clair Todibo IMAGO / Eibner

Jean-Clair Todibo:

Jean Clair Todibo could have been signed for United in the summer. He is keen on United, and remains the most likely target. OGC Nice would sell the French defender for around £35million. He has other suitors, but would prioritise a move to United.

Antonio Silva:

Antonio Silva is making a name for himself at Benfica, and United are paying attention. Silva has all the attributes an Erik ten Hag defender needs, and the manager and recruitment team has highlighted him as a concrete option.

Goncalo Inacio:

Goncalo Inacio has been a target for United for a long time, dating back two season. He is more of a Lisandro Martinez profile than Raphael Varane, and is one of the players being scouted by United for the new defender.

Edmond Tapsoba:

Another defender that has been in the sights of United for some time. Tapsoba is a quick and powerful defender. He has proved his worth at Bayer Leverkusen, and United feel he could be one of the players to transform their back line.
