Liverpool are closely monitoring Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to Football Insider.
The online news outlet claims that Frimpong has garnered attention from various Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Aston Villa who are interested in securing his signature should they qualify for the Champions League next season.
The 23-year-old has significantly impressed in the Bundesliga, establishing himself as one of the league’s standout right-backs through exceptional performances for Leverkusen this season.
Frimpong boasts an impressive record, having scored seven goals and provided 10 assists in 22 appearances across all competitions.
His contributions have been instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen’s ascent to the top of the league table, currently sitting with 42 points.
Since his transfer from Celtic to the Bundesliga outfit in January 2021, Frimpong has amassed 117 appearances, scoring 18 goals, and registering 30 assists.
Liverpool are exploring options to strengthen their defensive lineup and has identified Jeremie Frimpong as a potential transfer target for the upcoming summer transfer window.
This consideration aligns with a potential shift of Alexander-Arnold into a more permanent midfield role.
The Reds’ vice-captain faces a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury during last Sunday’s 2-0 victory against Arsenal in the Emirates FA Cup.
In recent seasons, Joe Gomez has served as a backup for Alexander-Arnold, occasionally deployed as a left-back this campaign.
Football Insider reports that Leverkusen are aware of the escalating interest in Frimpong, anticipating a potential move at the end of the 2023-24 season.
It’s rumored that the Netherlands international could be available later this year through a release clause estimated at around £35 million. Currently, Frimpong has four years remaining on his contract with Leverkusen.
