Liverpool have reportedly received a significant boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe ahead of summer transfer window, according to L’Equipe.

The French nationwide daily newspaper claims that Mbappe has a favourable view of the Reds, stemming from a meeting he had with the club during his time at AS Monaco.

The 25-year-old departed Monaco in 2017 to join PSG in a high-profile transfer valued at €180 million.

“The courtship that Liverpool paid to the striker when he was still at Monaco was never forgotten and neither has the discussions in the private plane of the English club’s shareholders while flying over the Mediterranean,” the report says.

“And if Carlo Ancelotti is a popular coach, Jurgen Klopp also knows how to do it.”

Liverpool remain in contention to sign the World Cup-winning forward this summer, as he has yet to finalise his commitment to any club, despite earlier reports suggesting a preference for Real Madrid.

The France international, expected to depart PSG in June upon the expiration of his contract, has twice neared a move to Carlo Ancelotti’s team but ultimately stayed with PSG.

Mbappe has chosen to let his PSG contract run down, and with the final six months underway, he is now permitted to engage in discussions with foreign clubs.

As part of this process, the French international has purportedly agreed to inform club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his decision before making a public announcement about his future.

Al-Khelaifi is keen on retaining Mbappe at the Ligue 1 side, expressing a desire for the forward to continue with PSG.

He told RMC’s Rothen s’enflamme podcast, “I’m not going to hide that I want Kylian to stay. The best player in the world is Kylian and the best club for him is Paris. He is central to our project.”

“He has the best training centre in the world, the best coach in the world (Luis Enrique).

“Every year he’s sure of playing in the Champions League, we’re in the last 16 at least, quarter-finals, even semi-finals or final, we’re there with the big clubs.”

Mbappe has racked up 24 appearances and netted 25 goals across all competitions so far this season.
