Liverpool made an attempt to sign Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz during the January transfer window, but their offers were rebuffed by the Serie A club, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claims that Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig also faced rejection when they approached to sign the young striker.

Yildiz had previously captured Liverpool’s interest last summer as part of Jurgen Klopp’s efforts to rebuild the squad for the current season following the departure of key players like Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson.

In August last year, Yildiz penned a new contract with Juventus that extends until 2027. However, given his exceptional performance, the Serie A giants might find themselves compelled to extend a lucrative pay raise his way soon.

The 18-year-old sensation marked his debut start in Serie A just last month by scoring a goal, securing his place in history as the youngest foreign player to achieve such a feat for Juventus at the age of 18 years and 233 days.

Yildiz has made 11 appearances, scored two goals, and provided one assist for Juve this season in all competitions. He came through the youth setup at Bayern Munich but decided to move to Turin in 2022.

Despite attracting attention from various clubs, including Arsenal with a rumored €40 million offer, Liverpool have shown concrete interest in securing Yildiz’s signature.

However, Juventus remain hesitant to part ways with the Turkish prodigy, favoring the potential sale of Moise Kean, who has struggled to make an impact in the current campaign with 12 league appearances and no goals for the Old Lady.

It remains uncertain whether Liverpool will renew their pursuit of Yildiz in the upcoming summer transfer window, considering their current attacking options, which include Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gapko.

Mohamed Salah, with 18 months remaining on his current contract, has been a standout performer, netting 18 goals across all competitions this season.

Liverpool are reportedly keen on extending the 31-year-old’s stay at Anfield.
