Celtic have emerged as a potential contender to secure the services of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the summer transfer window, as per reports from Scotland via the Daily Mail.

Nevertheless, it is understood that Liverpool would not part ways with the 25-year-old for a bargain and would consider a fair transfer fee should he decide to make a move.

Kelleher is being considered as a long-term replacement for the aging Joe Hart at Celtic Park, as the 36-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

If Kelleher decides to leave Liverpool this summer, he is likely to attract interest from three Premier League clubs who have monitored him this season.

Brentford, Brighton, and Wolves showed interest in signing the shot-stopper last summer.

Wolves were previously linked with Kelleher last summer as a potential replacement for Jose Sa, amid interest from Nottingham Forest in the Portuguese goalkeeper.

The Irish goalkeeper, Liverpool’s second choice, was reportedly valued at around £20 million last summer and expressed a desire to leave Anfield for regular playing time, having deputised for Alisson Becker on several occasions.

Despite the speculation, Kelleher stayed with Liverpool, where manager Jurgen Klopp frequently utilises him in cup competitions.

In 2022, Kelleher played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium, netting the decisive penalty in their 11-10 shootout win over the Blues.

Despite his limited opportunities for first-team football, making only 32 appearances across all competitions and keeping 12 clean sheets during his time at the club, Klopp downplayed any talks of Kelleher leaving last summer.

The German told reporters in a press conference last season. “I can’t see… honestly, I can’t see Caoimh leaving. It must be an extraordinary offer that I start thinking, I have to say.”

This season, Kelleher has amassed 11 appearances for Liverpool and currently serves as the club’s No.1 goalkeeper for both the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have reportedly been linked with Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson as a potential replacement for Kelleher if he moves on at the end of the campaign.

Kelleher has two years left on his remaining contract with the Reds, having signed an extension in 2021.
