Liverpool are poised to establish a new club record with the largest home league crowd in their history as they welcome Burnley to Anfield on Saturday.

The completion of the redevelopment of the upper tier of the Anfield Road stand will contribute to a boosted capacity of approximately 60,000.

As of now, the existing record attendance for a league match at the stadium dates back to December 1949 when 58,757 fans gathered for a clash against Chelsea.

The ambitious £80 million project faced setbacks, with its original deadline for completion at the beginning of the season hampered by delays.

Complicating matters further, construction firm Buckingham Group entered administration in early September. Despite these challenges, the redeveloped stand is set to enhance the Anfield experience, providing a significant increase in seating capacity.

A club statement read: “Liverpool FC continues to work at pace towards the completion of the new Anfield Road Stand.

“The next part of the planned phased opening of the ambitious project is expected to see more fans welcomed to Anfield for the upcoming Premier League fixture at Anfield against Burnley FC on February 10.

“This will however be subject of further internal emergency conditions tests, managed in conjunction with Liverpool City Council, which will take place later this week.

“The expanded upper tier of the new Anfield Road Stand was open for the first time at the visit of Manchester United in December, when more than 57,000 fans were welcomed to Anfield, its largest crowd in 50 years.

“Work has continued, in between a busy festive footballing period and a number of domestic cup home games in January, with excellent progress towards reaching full capacity of 61,000.

“This has been made possible thanks to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of all involved.

“Once again, Liverpool FC wishes to thank supporters for their continued patience and understanding.”

Full details of further ticket sales for remaining Premier League home games will be published on the club’s website in due course. The remaining tickets will be sold on a match-by-match basis.
