Salah sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty with Egypt at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, coming off at half-time in the 2-2 draw with Ghana in January.

He was initially diagnosed with a strain in his posterior muscle, and the Egypt Football Federation had indicated that he would be absent for only two matches.

However, Salah’s injury was more severe than initially thought, as a subsequent scan revealed a proper tear in his hamstring. This diagnosis has led to the 31-year-old being ruled out of action for nearly a month.

Jurgen Klopp provided a positive update on Salah’s condition ahead of Burnley’s visit to Anfield last Saturday afternoon, saying, “Mo is going in the right direction. We hope – but we don’t know – that he can be a part of training next week. If you ask him, it’s next week.”

“He’s going through his paces now, but it’s positive. It will be next week or the week after. If you ask him, it will be next week!”

Salah has contributed 18 goals and nine assists in all competitions for Liverpool this season – playing a pivotal role in the club’s pursuit of a historic quadruple.

Alisson Becker and Joe Gomez have also provided a boost to Liverpool by reporting for training at the AXA Training Centre.

Both players had been sidelined due to illness, caused by a flu outbreak within Klopp’s squad, leading to their absence from the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Burnley.

Conor Bradley meanwhile, has also returned to the training with his teammates after taking compassionate leave following the passing of his father.

Klopp confirmed last week that the Northern Ireland international could resume training if he felt ready in the days ahead.
