Liverpool’s game against Brentford will see the absence of Alisson Becker as the goalkeeper is set to miss the clash due to a hamstring injury, as reported by Liverpool Echo.
This development comes as a setback for the Reds, given Alisson’s significant contributions to the team’s defensive prowess. He suffered the injury during a training session at Kirkby on Friday and did not travelled with the squad.
The Brazil international has chosen to stay in Merseyside for additional examinations on the injury, leaving Caoimhin Kelleher on standby to once again step in as the goalkeeper for Saturday’s Premier League game.
Alisson missed three games earlier this season with a similar issue picked up during the closing stages of the 1-1 draw at defending champions Manchester City in November.
The 31-year-old was also ruled out for last weekend’s 3-1 league victory at home against Burnley due to a bout of flu. However, he had returned to training earlier this week.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference earlier on Friday, Klopp confirmed the return of his no.1 shot-stopper along with Mohamed Salah, Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez, and Ibrahima Konate.
“Mo is back in full training, [so] that brings him automatically in contention of course,” the German said.
“Ibou is not suspended anymore, Joey is fit again, Conor is back, Ali is back, so that’s all positive. Thiago, no. And Trent not [available], that’s true.”
Alisson has made 24 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions.
Kelleher will step in as the goalkeeper once again as he did in the 3-1 victory over Burnley. The Republic of Ireland holds the role of Klopp’s trusted No.2 and frequently starts in Carabao Cup games for the Reds.
