Liverpool are poised to make another acquisition from Bournemouth, this time targeting their chief scout, Mark Burchill, to join the ranks at Anfield, according to The Telegraph.
Burchill is slated to be the first appointment for Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes, who recently joined the club.
Alongside the established recruitment duo of chief scout Barry Hunter and head of recruitment Dave Fallows, Burchill’s addition is anticipated to further enhance Liverpool’s scouting setup.
Having recently confirmed Hughes’s move from Bournemouth, Fenway Sports Group’s football chief executive, Michael Edwards, has endorsed the inclusion of Burchill into Liverpool’s structure, recognising his potential contribution.
A former Celtic player and Scottish international, Burchill shares a longstanding connection with fellow Scot Hughes.
Their relationship dates back to their time as teammates at Fratton Park in the early 2000s, deepening the ex-Portsmouth presence on Merseyside.
This connection resonates with Edwards, who initially forged his bond with Liverpool’s future sporting director during this period.
Following his playing career, Burchill ventured into management, taking the reins at Livingston from 2014 to 2015.
Despite guiding the club to the Scottish Cup, his tenure ended abruptly with his dismissal.
Subsequently, he shifted gears, opting for a behind-the-scenes role upon joining Bournemouth, shortly after Hughes assumed the role of technical director.
Burchill played a pivotal role in Bournemouth’s recruitment successes, notably contributing to the acquisitions of players like Nathan Ake, David Brooks, and Philip Billing, all of whom experienced significant value appreciation following their transfers to the south coast club.
