Liverpool’s longstanding head of goalkeeping John Achterberg will bid farewell to the club at the end of the season, according to Liverpool Echo.

After 15 years of dedicated service, Achterberg’s contract is set to expire, prompting his decision to seek new challenges beyond Anfield.

His departure marks another significant change within Jurgen Klopp’s backroom staff, as incoming head coach Arne Slot prepares to oversee a reshuffle.

With Achterberg’s imminent exit, Slot will need to find a new goalkeeping coach to fill the void left by the departing Dutchman.

It remains uncertain whether Jack Robinson, Achterberg’s understudy, will remain with Liverpool in the future.

Additionally, the future of 1994 Brazil World Cup winner Claudio Taffarel, who has been involved with the club, remains unclear as Liverpool undergo significant restructuring behind the scenes.

Achterberg’s departure adds to the list of end-of-season exits, alongside assistant managers Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, as well as Klopp and elite-development coach Vitor Matos.

Jonh Achterberg joined Liverpool’s backroom staff in June 2009, making the short journey across the Mersey from Wirral neighbours Tranmere Rovers

Feyenoord coach Slot is expected to implement his own appointments to restructure the backroom staff over the summer.

Assistant Sipke Hulshoff and head of performance Ruben Peeters are anticipated to join the coaching staff, while analyst Etienne Reijnen is also set to be appointed.

Achterberg’s departure coincides with broader changes at Liverpool, with Michael Edwards assuming the role of Fenway Sports Group’s ‘CEO of football,’ Bournemouth’s Richard Hughes set to join as sporting director from June 1, and David Woodfine returning to the club as his assistant.
