Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Alexander Isak’s representatives, providing a much-needed boost following their Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle United.

Isak played a key role at Wembley on Sunday, scoring Newcastle’s second goal in their 2-1 victory over the Reds.

According to Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, Liverpool are pushing to sign the Swedish striker, though Arsenal also consider him a priority target.

“Big, big massive proposals will come to the table for Alexander Isak,” says Romano.

“Arsenal will be there, they want Isak. Sesko is the other name on the list but for sure Isak and Sesko are the two main names.

“Liverpool are also there, they already made some contact with people close to the player.

“So, both clubs are interested. For Arsenal he’s the absolute top target, for Liverpool he’s one of the names they are considering in that position, so we will follow the situation.

“Newcastle keep insisting on their position to continue with the player,” Romano added,

“But we know when there is important money on the table it is sometimes about the financial fair play and all these kinds of things.”

Isak, who made the move to Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, is currently enjoying the best season of his career, with 23 goals and five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

The Sweden international ranks third among the Premier League’s top scorers this season, trailing only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

Liverpool could make space for a new number nine this summer by parting ways with Darwin Nunez, who was a target for Saudi Arabian clubs in January.

According to Romano, the Uruguayan striker is expected to receive offers to leave Anfield at the end of the season, having struggled to convince manager Arne Slot that he is capable of being the first-choice striker.
