Adrian San Miguel signed a new contract at Liverpool ahead of the 2023/24 season keeping him at the club for another year as the back-up to Alisson Becker and Caiomhin Kelleher.
The Spanish goalkeeper only played one game in all competitions last season which was the Community Shield win over Manchester City but he nevertheless he is delighted to be staying at the club.
Speaking to the Liverpoolfc.com he said: “I’m delighted, to be honest, to stay here and continue being part of this great football club. From the beginning, when I came in 2019, the club, the fans, the manager opened their arms like, ‘This is your new home.’ Yeah, this is my new home.
“At the end of the day, we need competition in the squad. As I always say, the competition makes us better and we have a great goalkeeper group with the goalkeeper coach, the youngsters – it’s a good mix. We are good friends as well. So that is the most important thing – to be close to each other, to support in those difficult moments.
“As soon as the club told me that option, I had nothing to think about and obviously just to put the pen on the paper and sign it.”
A popular figure in the dressing room Adrian is close to several members of the squad with Darwin Nunez being one of them and he has given a prediction on how he expects Nunez to perform in this upcoming campaign.
“He’s desperate to start scoring goals again, looking forward to the first friendly and to play and score some goals.
“I think he helped a lot last season but I think this second season for him will be more calm. He has the experience of the first now and he had to learn many things as well because he’s still very young – but I think he can help us a lot,” said the former West Ham man.
Adrian will be part of Liverpool’s pre-season squad that will be travelling to Germany with their first warm-up game coming up against Karlsruher SC on 19th July.
