Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is set to become Liverpool’s first signing after passing his medical last night at AXA Training Centre.

The 24-year-old emerged as a serious target for the Reds after Jurgen Klopp’s side opted not to pursue a deal for Real Madrid-bound Jude Bellingham because of the money involved.

Mac Allister was linked with several clubs including Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea, however, it is believed he has opted to move to Anfield.

He penned a new deal with Brighton last October which runs until the summer of 2025, with an option for an extra 12 months.

However, his release clause has been met by the Merseysiders, and have already agreed personal terms with the South American.

Frank Leboeuf, who won five major honours for Chelsea during the 90s, believes Mac Allister will fit in seamlessly at the club.

“They needed it,” said the France World Cup winner. “They have been struggling in the middle of the park and he is a perfect fit.

“The guy is a very good player. He knows what you need from a midfielder. He knows how to defend, how to get the ball back, how to serve the guy in front and how to go forward to score goals.

“For Liverpool, Mac Allister is the guy is the image of what the club needs and the image of what the club was a couple of years ago when they were going forward fast and effectively. It’s the perfect fit.”

Liverpool would switch attention to the likes of Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram as Klopp looks to bolster his midfield options for next season.
