Liverpool boss Arne Slot has remained resolute in his pursuit of Jeremie Frimpong, with replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold remaining one of his top priorities for the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports in Switzerland
The Reds are preparing for the potential departure of Alexander-Arnold, who has reportedly turned down a final contract offer as he eyes a free transfer to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
The right-back’s expiring deal has been a major concern for the Reds, and efforts have long been underway to identify a suitable replacement.
Reports from December indicated that Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong was at the top of Liverpool’s shortlist.
Arne Slot is said to be leading the club’s pursuit of the Dutchman, with Sky Sports in Switzerland revealing that the two held several discussions regarding Frimpong’s future.
Despite Slot’s strong interest in bringing Frimpong to Anfield, the Liverpool boss has acknowledged that signing a right-back is not the club’s top priority this summer – even if Alexander-Arnold departs.

Liverpool CEO of Football Michael Edwards has a strong working relationship with the management at Leverkusen, which could play a key role in securing a deal.
Edwards will need to operate within the budget set by FSG but remains confident that Liverpool can compete for the right-back.

Instead, the Reds are expected to prioritise a new striker and centre-back before turning their attention to Frimpong.

However, the 23-year-old has reportedly been informed that he would be Liverpool’s third signing if deals for the other positions are secured first.
Frimpong’s contract with Leverkusen includes a €40million (£33.7m) release clause, which must be paid in full for any club to trigger a move.
It remains to be seen if Frimpong, who has expressed interest in Liverpool’s project, will ultimately reject interest from other clubs and make Anfield his next destination.
