Ecuadorian centre-back Piero Hincapie has been at the centre of the spotlight as many reports have been linking him with a move to the Premier League, but securing a move away from the German side might be a difficult task for Liverpool or any other team in the running.

With less than ten days left of the summer transfer window, Liverpool is looking to finish their squad rebuild under manager Jurgen Klopp. And after the additions of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo, the Reds are also searching to strengthen their defensive department.

The latest reports from Germany emerged a few days back, and claimed that Jurgen Klopp had identified Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié as a potential signing ahead of the last days of the window.

The Ecuadorian centre-back is well known for his versatility and leadership on the field. With the ability to play in the centre of defence, as well as a left-back or even left wing-back. A strength that for a player of his age and profile suits Liverpool perfectly, specially considering he’s left footed.

Hincapie Price-Tag Revealed

Although claims have not been as concrete, it is obvious as to why Hincapie suits the Liverpool transfer target mold. He is young, versatile, fast, experienced, and most importantly left-footed, a description of a player the Anfield side is missing.

But now, according to our information Liverpool have indeed shown interest in the 21-year old and have gone as far as to making an initial approach to Bayer Leverkusen to request information on a possible transfer.

The former Talleres and Independiente del Valle man is represented by the same agent of Moises Caicedo, which Liverpool are said not to be in good terms with after their dramatic turn of events on the transfer batter that led Chelsea to sign the midfielder. But that has not stopped the Reds from enquiring about Hincapie.

The German side has been very clear about their stance, and are counting with Piero Hincapie as part of their long term project. In fact, they are currently not considering selling the defender whose contract runs until 2027, unless it is for an astronomical fee that could range around the €75 million euros (£64 million pounds).

2024 Summer Possible Departure Date

Hincapie is attracted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League and securing a move to a top side similar to his fellow teammate and compatriot Moises Caicedo, which was also involved in a transfer battle between Chelsea and Liverpool, but the defender does not intend to push for a move away as he is currently happy at the club.

The player instead will consider leaving next year when manager Xabi Alonso is said to be favoring a move to Real Madrid as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor.

Despite that, Piero Hincapie is in no rush as to leaving Germany, and with his spot secured on the national team as well as the Bundesliga side, a late transfer to Liverpool or Tottenham is very unlikely unless they meet Bayer Leverkusen’s demands.
