Liverpool have confirmed that young defender Billy Koumetio has left the club on loan for the the 2023/24 campaign to further his development.

The centre back has joined the French second division and will be playing for USL Dunkerque who got promoted from the third division last season.

Koumetio has played senior games before for Liverpool and will have hoped to be given more of a chance this season due to the possible departure of Nathaniel Phillips.

However he has been sent out again to gain more first-team experience just like last campaign.

What does the future hold for Koumetio?

Koumetio was highly rated when he was coming through the ranks of Liverpool hence why he was given a senior debut by Jurgen Klopp in 2020 against FC USL Dunkerque in the Champions League.

However at 20-years-old Koumetio doesn’t appear to have too much of a future at Anfield hence why he is getting loaned at again.

Last season he made 17 appearances on loan at Austrian side Austria Vienna which probably would not have been as many as he or Liverpool would have wanted.

However this will be only his second full season playing in a senior side so it may take Koumetio a bit more time to possibly become a serious option for the Reds in the future.

USL Dunkerque have started their campaign in decent form as they have picked up four points in their opening four games.
