Mohamed Salah continued to showcase his remarkable goal-scoring prowess against the Seagulls, scoring twice in the first half at the Amex Stadium to overturn Simon Adingra’s earlier opener.

However, Lewis Dunk ensured that the hosts on the south coast shared the points. Dunk capitalised on a Solly March free-kick 12 minutes from the final whistle, leveling the score.

As the October international break approaches, Liverpool find themselves in 4th place in the league table with 17 points, trailing leaders Tottenham Hotspur by three points.

In this analysis, we’ll delve into Liverpool’s performance, as discussed by Jacque Talbot (@jac_talbot), a correspondent for Transfersdotcom.

Are you satisfied with the result?

Jacque: From a Liverpool perspective, I think it’s not the best result for them, especially given they missed out on points in the previous game too. Brighton at the Amex is a tough place to go but those defensive frailties shone through which led to the goals.

Some supporters have accused Jurgen Klopp of wasting Alexis Mac Allister as a No.6. Do you share the same opinion?

Jacque: I think it speaks volumes over Jurgen Klopp’s lack of faith in Endo right now. Mac Allister is much better as a No.8 or a No.10 but I guess the coach believes he has no choice but to use this system. Perhaps it will take time to find its groove, it’s too early in the season, really.

The Reds head into the international break with 17 points from their first eight league games of the season. Good start to the campaign?

Jacque: I think it’s a solid start to the season, no club is looking seamless so far and Liverpool can be proud of their points return given some of the bad luck they’ve had their way in recent games. I believe they can progress from here and start to really kick on. Last campaign was a kick in the teeth and this transition will take time.

What do you reckon Jurgen Klopp should do after the break as he keeps changing his starting XI, especially in attack and defence?

Jacque: Rotation isn’t always a bad thing but keeping the core group of players working together each week helps, especially when it concerns the backline. Injuries and suspensions haven’t helped so far but the break will be a good time for Klopp to cement that system down in training.

What would be your preferred starting XI if everyone is fit?

Jacque: Alisson; TAA, Konate, VVD, Robertson; Thiago, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Nunez, Gakpo, Salah
