Brighton & Hove Albion are disappointed by Moises Caicedo’s agent’s decision to stall on a potential Liverpool deal, according to Chris Williams.
The Reds have agreed a British record transfer fee of £111m with the Seagulls for the 21-year-old- surpassing the £107m Chelsea paid for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez earlier this year.
Caicedo was expected to travel to Liverpool for medical on Friday afternoon but the deal is on hold due to the player’s preference to join Chelsea instead.
“Been told from well placed sources in Futbol Division that Manuel Sierra told Moisés Caicedo to hold this morning, after verbal terms were agreed with Liverpool, prior to their record bid being accepted. Brighton said to be livid after setting terms of sale with Sierra,” Williams posted on his Twitter page.
Caicedo is still in London, hoping for Chelsea to match or outbid Liverpool, however, the Blues are yet to offer a new improved bid.
The South American moved to Brighton from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle for £4m in February 2021, however, he did not make his Premier League debut until April 2022.
Liverpool have lost several midfielders including Jordan Henderson and Fabinho who moved to the Saudi Pro League last month, however, they’ve already signed Caicedo’s Brighton team-mate Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
