Romeo Lavia to Liverpool is a transfer that has been spoken about for the vast majority of the transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp’s side already having a reported two failed bids for the Southampton midfielder.

This a deal that has become almost a necessity after the departure of Fabinho to Al Ittihad, leaving the Reds with no real defensive midfield option going into the 23/24 Premier League campaign, which is just now a week away.

Lavia impressed in his debut season in the Premier League for Southampton last season despite the side getting relegated to the Championship, the midfielder has recently received his first senior cap for the Belgium national team, coming off the bench against Germany in March during a friendly.

Southampton is reported to be seeking a fee in the region of £50million for the Belgian and is proving to be tough negotiators, sticking firm on their price and ultimately telling suitors to take it or leave it.

Manchester City does have a buyback clause inserted with Lavia for a fee reported to be £40million that does not activate till 2024. Southampton are eager to get more than this fee to let go of their midfield starlet after just one season.

Speaking on his podcast ‘Here We Go‘ Fabrizio Romano has revealed that he is still convinced the Belgian ends up on Merseyside “Southampton want their money, they are healthy from a financial point of view and they are not desperate to sell players.

Southampton are always asking for £50 million, Liverpool have tried with £37 million, then they tried with £42 million. They will try again

“I remain convinced that Liverpool will try again and they will bid again for Romeo Lavia. But it’s on Southampton more than on Liverpool, so we will have to see how they react to these bids.”
