Former Liverpool player Jermaine Pennant has admitted he’s stunned at what Jordan Henderson has reportedly been offered to join Al Ettifaq.
Henderson is leaning towards a move to the Saudi Pro League side, which is currently managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
It was reported that the 33-year-old has already agreed a contract worth £700,000-a-week and Al Ettifaq are hopeful of meeting the Red’s £10m valuation for their captain.
Despite negotiations still ongoing, the England midfielder was added to Liverpool’s squad for their 10-day training camp in Germany. He has two years left on his remaining contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side and was part of the German’s plans for the new season.
But he is expected to leave Anfield in the coming days, bringing his 12-year stay at the club to an end.
Pennant told talkSPORT: “It is crazy, and I don’t know what they see in him. It is Jordan Henderson; it is not like they are trying to prise Lionel Messi away. It is just Jordan Henderson.”
Goldstein added: “He has been a good captain for Liverpool but I don’t think he is a game-changer.
“His assists and goals, the numbers are very low.
“You can’t argue with what he has done with Liverpool. He has been their captain, their leader, I get all that.”
Pennant continued: “See you say that but you tell me a game that Jordan Henderson has been a standout player, or done something that has stood out, I can’t.
“Okay, he was there but I can’t think of a game where I’ve thought, ‘oh yeah, this is why we’ve signed Jordan Henderson'”.
