New Liverpool signing Dominik Szoboszlai may have dropped a huge hint as to who will replace Jordan Henderson as Liverpool captain.
The 33-year-old looks set to join Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq after the two clubs were reported to have agreed on a fee of £12million plus add-ons.
Henderson may not be the only one heading for the exit door at Anfield however with Fabinho also closing in on a £40million move to Saudi club Al-Ittihad.
After Liverpool had completed the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, Jurgen Klopp’s engine room looked well set ahead of the new season.
The news that he could lose two of his most experienced players however has left the German with a problem which will mean further reinforcements are needed.
Another consideration for the 56-year-old is that he will also be losing his trusted skipper.
A post on Instagram from Szoboszlai however seems to drop a huge hint that Virgil van Dijk will now be handed the armband by Klopp.
The Hungarian responded to a post from Van Dijk with the ©️ sign suggesting a decision has been made.
New Liverpool Captain – The Transfer Room Verdict
It would not be a surprise to see Van Dijk handed the armband.
He had often deputised for Henderson and James Milner when they were absent, and also skippered the team in Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Karlsruher SC on Wednesday.
Assuming his appointment is confirmed, hopefully it will be the trigger for the 32-year-old to get back to his best after a disappointing last campaign.
