Saudi club Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, are keen on signing Reds skipper Jordan Henderson according to a report.

The 33-year-old has played a huge role in Liverpool’s success over recent years leading them to glory both domestically as well as on the European and World stage.

He is likely to face renewed competition for his place at Anfield this season however after the signings of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

Former Liverpool captain Gerrard was named the new manager of the Saudi club at the start of July and appears to be wasting no time in trying to recruit a familiar face.

According to Loïc Tanzi, Al-Ettifaq are keen to sign Henderson this summer and suggests that sources have claimed that ‘negotiations could be very advanced’.

Whilst Henderson’s contributions on the pitch may have declined over the past couple of seasons, his leadership off the pitch remains essential to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

It seems unthinkable therefore that the England international would be allowed to leave in the same summer that vice-captain James Milner departed.
