Liverpool and Al-Ettifaq appear to have agreed a deal for the transfer of Reds skipper Jordan Henderson.
The 33-year-old was reported to have already agreed personal terms on a three-year deal with the Saudi club but there was no agreement between the two clubs.
The sticking point appeared to be that Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq expected to be able to sign the England international on a free transfer, however, Liverpool were determined to receive a fee for their captain.
Henderson reported for duty on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Germany but speculation intensified when he was left out of Jurgen Klopp’s squad for the match against Karlsruher SC on Wednesday.
Shortly after, Fabrizio Romano reported that the two clubs had reached ‘an agreement in principle’ over the transfer fee. He has since confirmed that Liverpool will receive £12million plus addons for Henderson.
Jordan Henderson Fee – The Transfer Room Verdict
It had been rumoured that the Anfield hierarchy were demanding £20million for the player who joined the club in 2011.
The fee reported appears to be something of a compromise therefore to allow Henderson his move and to free up more money on the Liverpool wage bill.
