Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer.
It is believed that the Reds will pay a British record transfer fee of £111m for the 21-year-old- surpassing the £107m Chelsea paid for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez earlier this year.
Caicedo will sign a six-year contract with the Merseysiders after completing his medical on Friday afternoon.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s opening Premier League game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday, Klopp said: “I got told I can confirm a deal with club is agreed.Â
“We want the player, what we change is we are a club, we don’t have endless resources.
“We didn’t expect a couple of things to happen this summer with Henderson and Fabinho, we gave it a go and the club was stretched but we will see in the end.”
Caicedo has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer but Liverpool have hijacked the move after outbidding Mauricio Pochettino’s side on Thursday night.
The South American moved to Brighton from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle for £4m in February 2021, however, he did not make his Premier League debut until April 2022.
Liverpool have lost several midfielders including Jordan Henderson and Fabinho who moved to the Saudi Pro League last month, however, they’ve already signed Caicedo’s Brighton team-mate Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
