New singing Alexis Mac Allister picked up a knee injury during Liverpool’s pre-season loss to Bayern Munich and Jurgen Klopp has given us an update.
The Reds started on fire in today’s friendly in Singapore, a goal each by Cody Gakpo and Virgil Van Dijk put them 2-0 up in the first 28 minutes.
Alexis Mac Allister played alongside Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones in a midfield three, giving the side such a attacking threat.
Everything Liverpool offered in attack, however, they paid for in defence, conceding two sloppy goals before half-time, making it 2-2 at the break.
After the break, the Bundesliga side took a foothold of the game, but it was Jurgen Klopp’s men who, once again, took the lead.
Like in the first half, Bayern Munich pulled it back and eventually got a winner in the last few moments of the game.
Results tend not to matter in pre-season but many talking points can be taken out of today’s match, Mac Allister going down due to a knee injury being one of them.
Despite the initial worry of onlookers, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given a positive update in the post-match press conference regarding the Argentinian, who was willing to play on.
‘Yeah, knee on knee. He could have played on. “So firstly I got the information that it’s too painful, so that was then clear that we will change.
‘There’s no need to push him through. “When I spoke afterwards, he said, ‘No, no, I would have been fine.’ But we didn’t want to go [with] any risks. It’s just knee on knee, bruise, that’s it. It was fine.’
Every Liverpool fan must have had their hearts in their mouths seeing the new star signing go down initially. Thankfully, ‘nothing to worry’ about seems to be the message.
