Jurgen Klopp has ruled out leaving Liverpool this summer amid renewed speculation linking him with the German national team job.
The 56-year-old, who has three years left on his remaining contract with the Reds is seen as a perfect candidate to replace Germany boss Hansi Flick ahead of next summer’s Euros.
Flick has come under immense pressure after a run of just four wins in the past 16 matches. He replaced Joachim Low after the World Cup-winning coach departed.
The 58-year-old led Bayern Munich to Bundesliga and Champions League glory but has struggled to make a meaningful impact at the senior team level with Germany.
“The job of national coach is and would be a great honour – there’s no question about that,” Klopp was quoted via Sky Germany.
“The problem that stands in the way of the whole thing is my loyalty. I can’t just leave Liverpool now and say I’ll take over Germany for a short time. That doesn’t work and the request isn’t even there.
“If I’m supposed to do that at some point, then I have to be available and I’m not currently,” he added.
“I have a responsibility towards the club. Basically, it’s an interesting job. But I don’t know yet whether I’ll do something completely different after I leave Liverpool. I want to keep my options open.”
Since his appointment as Liverpool manager, Klopp has led the club to win several trophies including the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, and Emirates FA Cup.
