Jurgen Klopp feels new summer signing Wataru Endo has settled in well at Liverpool after just moving to Anfield last Friday.
Endo was named on the bench for last Saturday’s league clash with Bournemouth at Anfield. The Reds secured a 3-1 win with 10 men after Alexis Mac Allister was shown a straight red card just before the hour mark.
The 30-year-old Japan skipper climbed off the bench for his first appearance with Diogo Jota netting the hosts’ third goal in between to seal a comfortable victory.
“Yeah, it’s still early days but yes, you’re right. [The debut] came after one-and-a-half days, pretty much – half a session, playing in a team who have to defend with 10 men, it’s really difficult,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“I think he did really exceptionally well. Now we have had him here [for] three sessions this week – looks good. He is a good player, just like that, but I really think if it would be that easy to bring somebody in in the centre of the park and it would work out perfectly after three days, why did we train then with all the others so long?
“We could just do it always like that – bring them together and play at the weekend. I was really happy and, no, it was not expected.
“We had him on the bench to bring him on, but obviously later and in a slightly different situation. He did well and now we can use that. The first marker is set, if you want, and now let’s go from there.”
Endo is expected to be handed his first start when Liverpool travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United on Sunday.
