Vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to be fit for the game at St. James’ Park, however, Ibrahima Konate is a doubt.

Alexander-Arnold suffered a slight knock against AFC Bournemouth last weekend and was replaced by Joe Gomez in the second half.

Thiago Alcantara and Curtis Jones are still on the sideline, while a muscle issue means Konate will have to pass a late fitness test to be available for selection.

Speaking about the availability of the players at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Klopp said: “Trent yes.

“Thiago from Monday on. Curtis from Monday on. And Ibou is a doubt. Yeah, playing 40 minutes with 10 men didn’t help, let me say it like that. But that’s the situation. The rest should be available.”

Liverpool have picked up four points out of a possible six after just two games into the new season. The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea at Stamford before securing their first three points of the campaign with a convincing 3-1 win at Anfield against the Cherries.

Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Newcastle home and away last season and would be hoping to achieve a similar feat this season.
