Liverpool have announced their squad list for the first half of the 2023-24 Premier League season.

Among the notable inclusions is the new summer signing, Ryan Gravenberch. Interestingly, Gravenberch is part of the squad despite not being a homegrown player. Conversely, goalkeeper Adrian, who didn’t make the cut for Liverpool’s Europa League squad, has found his name on Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League squad list.

It’s essential to note that Premier League regulations dictate that each squad can have no more than 17 players who do not meet the league’s ‘homegrown’ criteria.

In this context, a ‘homegrown’ player is defined as someone who, regardless of their nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated with The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a continuous or non-continuous period of three full seasons, which equates to 36 months, before their 21st birthday or before the conclusion of the season during which they turn 21.

Furthermore, the regulations stipulate that U21 players, those born on or after January 1, 2002, do not count towards the 25-man squad limit.

As a result, clubs have the flexibility to field as many U21 players as they desire in their squads.
