Liverpool are interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Nicolò Barella this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his squad for the new season, according to renowned journalist Rudy Galetti.

The Reds are internally discussing whether to make a bid for the Italy international in the coming days or not despite stepping up talks to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

Barella was not for sale by Inter but the imminent transfer of Udinese’s Lazar Samardžić means the 26-year-old could be offloaded if the Serie A giants receive a suitable offer.

According to Calciomercato.it, the Nerazzurri value Barella at £68m. Liverpool have lost several midfielders this summer including Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Jordan Henderson.

Fabinho is also on the verge of joining Al Ittihad in the coming days in a deal worth £40m. The Brazilian completed his medical over the weekend and will soon put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

Despite the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Klopp is keen on revamping his midfield.

Barella is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world following his impressive performances for Inter Milan last season. He helped Simone Inzaghi’s side reach the finals of last season’s Champions League only to lose to Treble winners Manchester City.

He made 52 appearances across all competitions, scored nine goals, and provided 10 assists for Inter Milan last term as they finished 3rd in the Serie A table.
