Adam Lewis becomes the latest Liverpool player to leave the club this summer to join Newport County on a season-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old makes a return to the League Two club having spent the 2022-23 campaign in Wales where he featured in 28 games and made seven goal contributions across all competitions.

Lewis’ loan spell was unfortunately cut short by injury in February. He penned a new long-term contract with Liverpool in 2020 after joining the Reds Academy at under-six level.

The left-back progressed through the ranks to the U23 side after captaining the U18s under Steven Gerrard in 2017-18.

“Adam Lewis has joined Newport County on a season-long loan deal,” a club statement read.

“The 23-year-old defender, a graduate of Liverpool’s Academy, rejoins the League Two club having spent the 2022-23 campaign in Wales.

“Lewis, who is a versatile left-sided player, made 28 appearances for County across all competitions last term, before seeing his campaign end prematurely due to injury.”

Lewis has made just one appearance for Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth-round replay victory over Shrewsbury Town at Anfield in February 2020, however, he has regularly trained with Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

He has previously featured for French side Amiens SC, Plymouth Argyle, and Scottish Premiership side Livingston on loan.

“I love Newport.” the versatile defender said.

“I’ve loved it ever since I came here, I’m really hoping we have a good season and achieve what we want to achieve.”

Newport manager Graham Coughlan added: “Adam is great to have at the back and it is fantastic to have him back around the club!”

“Adam gives us a couple of options and qualities that we were lacking previously.

“We’d like to thank Liverpool F.C for helping us get this move complete.”
