Andy Robertson has suffered another injury setback while on international duty, this time during a friendly match against Northern Ireland.
The Liverpool star was forced off the pitch in the first half of Scotland’s game at Hampden Park.
Robertson initially went down holding his ankle 30 minutes into the game after a challenge from Northern Ireland full-back Trai Hume.
Although he received treatment and attempted to continue, he was unable to carry on and was seen walking off the pitch with physios shortly after Conor Bradley scored, leaving his Euro 2024 prospects uncertain.
This injury marks the second setback for Robertson this season.
He was previously sidelined between October and January following a collision with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon during a Euro 2024 qualifier.
Scotland manager Steve Clarke offered his support as Robertson left the field, with Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson replacing him.
Details regarding the severity of Robertson’s injury and the expected recovery time are yet to be announced.
Jurgen Klopp has faced challenges throughout the season due to numerous injuries.
Kostas Tsimikas initially filled in for Robertson during his absence, but injuries to Tsimikas himself saw Joe Gomez take on the left-back role.
This season has been unusually difficult for Robertson, who has been a consistent presence in Liverpool’s lineup in previous seasons.
Having played at least 43 games in each of the last five seasons before this one, Robertson’s fitness and consistency have been remarkable.
However, shoulder surgery forced him to miss 21 games this campaign, and he will be eager to avoid further absences.
Despite the setbacks, Liverpool have already secured the Carabao Cup and remain contenders for the Premier League title and the Europa League under Klopp’s management in his final season at the club.
