Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has confirmed that Mohamed Salah has reassured his teammates that he intends to stay at the club, despite ongoing transfer speculation linking him with a move to Al-Ittihad.
The Reds have made it clear that they have no intentions of selling Salah, rejecting a substantial verbal offer from the Saudi Pro League side late in the summer transfer window. The bid exceeded £100 million, with significant add-ons included.
Reports suggest that Al-Ittihad is preparing an improved offer worth £200 million in the coming days in an attempt to tempt Liverpool into parting ways with the Egyptian, who has two years remaining on his current contract with the club.
Liverpool have already seen midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson move to Al-Ittihad and El-Ettifaq, respectively, this summer. Additionally, Roberto Firmino joined Al-Ahli after his contract with Anfield expired.
Following Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday, Szoboszlai revealed that Salah had addressed the dressing room, reaffirming his desire to stay at the club.
“You know it is football, everyone is talking. We are really happy that he has stayed. We are of course speaking between each other but he [Salah] wants to stay, he wants to be here and be with us, and he will stay. We are really happy – we need people in the team like him,” the 22-year-old, who scored his first goal for the club said.
“I am enjoying it all the time. I am doing what I love to do. I think everyone is like this and if you are 3-0 up you are going to enjoy it. We showed last week we enjoy it when we are 1-0 down and we are just doing our thing.
“If you score your first goal for Liverpool at Anfield it is always special. I am looking forward to getting even more. “It can be always more, it can be less. We take this and we knew if we come out and we think the game is over we were going to be in trouble.
“But we wanted to score another one quick. We came out and score another and just enjoy it. I am comfortable. I really like the guys. Nice guys. Good players, good coach and I am just enjoying it.”
