After a swift start in the transfer window, securing the signings of both Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig, Liverpool’s movement as somewhat slowed down with a move for Romeo Lavia now doubtful.

A major midfield rebuild was reportedly promised, however, as reports surrounding the futures of captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have recently emerged, as well as the loss of three other midfielders already, two incomings no longer seems enough.

Offers from Saudi Arabia has opened the door for both club legends to leave this summer, meaning the Reds will essentially need to bring in at least two more midfielders just to cover those outgoings alone.

Prior to the recent reports, one more midfielder was likely to be on the cards with players such as Romeo Lavia and Khephren Thuram.

The former is a player that Jurgen Klopp likes but with Southampton being stubborn with the demanded fee, Liverpool are holding back to go any further than discussions. The relegated side have slapped a £50m price tag on the Belgian, which clubs interested in his signing are not convinced of.

Romeo Lavia Doubts

Despite the need for more signings, reliable journalist Gianluco Di Marzio believes that is it for the Merseyside club. Speaking to wettfreunde.net, the Italian states that he is unsure whether Romeo Lavia is a target for Liverpool, going on to say that the club ‘already have the players they need’.

‘Liverpool have already been very active in this transfer window with the signing of Szoboszlai and MacAllister and I don’t know if they want more players.

‘So I don’t know if Romeo Lavia is really a target for Liverpool this summer. But Liverpool is one of the most important players in the market.

Usually they get the players they want, and now they are starting a new era with new people and players. But I think Liverpool already have the players they need for next season.’

A statement, which if true, will not only be met by confusion from the Liverpool fans but also anger

A midfield rebuild it was supposed to be but the more the window goes on, the less convincing it becomes.

Time is still on the hands of the Reds, like it has been in the past. Can Jurgen Klopp get the rebuild he needs to go again this season?

Transfer Room Verdict

The optimistic side of me believes we will bring in at least one more midfielder, even though, either or both of Fabinho and Henderson leave, is certainly not enough. However, over the years, Jurgen Klopp has been left short over and over again, meaning statements such as this can not be laughed off.

The sheer fact that this can even be remotely believable tells you everything you need to know when it comes to Liverpool and transfer windows. Great start by getting Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, now we need to end it with the same ambition.
