When Liverpool announced the appointment of Arne Slot as the successor to the club’s most successful manager a little under twelve months ago, questions were raised about how he would use the current squad to adjust to his tactics. The same tactics saw him win the Eredivisie with Feyenoord.

Slot maintained his wish for a possession-based controlled midfield. Using the combined skills of both Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, this saw immense success. However, the lack of trusted rotational options has left these stars running somewhat low on gas.

A strong rotational option will need to be provided in the Summer to allow for more rest, injuries are bound to happen and overplaying certain players will only increase that risk.

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool, among many other Premier League clubs, will be chasing the signature of Eintracht Frankfut midfielder Hugo Larsson. The Swedish 20-year-old is also on the radar of Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as multiple top Bundesliga clubs.

Frankfurt values the young Swede at £50million. A steep asking price for a player with seventy-five appearances for Frankfurt with only fifty-seven games worth of minutes under his belt. Not a lot of first-team minutes. Liverpool typically looks for those types of players with one-hundred-and-fifty appearances under their name at senior level before contemplating a move.

Larsson, however, looks like a player, with his numbers showing him to be similar to Alexis Mac Allister in many ways. Your all-around midfielder who does it all and at a high level. He can progress the ball with both passing and carrying, defend when needed, and set the tempo of the game from the middle of the pitch.

Larsson tends to sit a little deeper than Alexis, with his heat map showing a more roaming midfielder than a set defensive or central positioning.

An interesting one to keep an eye on for the future of the Swedish international.
